Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut tiene una oferta "Almuerzos 2 de 4" que consiste en elegir entre una variedad de ensaladas, pastas, entradas y postres por un precio fijo: $4.50 (no incluye bebidas).  Hay varios Pizza Hut en Managua, Nicaragua: Metrocentro (frente al catedral), Metrocentro (food court), Plaza Inter (food court), Bello Horizonte, El Guanacaste (contiguo a la Texaco) y Villa Fontana.  Aquí estuvimos en el restaurante de Metrocentro, 100 vrs. norte de la rotonda. 

Pizza Hut has an offer "Almuerzos 2 de 4" that consists of any 2 choices from 4 different categories of salads, pastas, appetizers and desserts (drink is not included with this offer).  There are several Pizza Hut restaurantes in Managua, Nicaragua: Metrocentro (in front of the cathedral), Metrocentro (food court), Plaza Inter (food court), Bello Horizonte, El Guanacaste (next to the Texaco) y Villa Fontana.  Here we were at the Metrocentro location, 100 mts. north of the roundabout.

Santa Fe

Fuimos a comer hace unos días a Santa Fe, un restaurante de estilo Tex-Mex en Managua, Nicaragua.  Tiene un ambiente agradable, buenas margaritas ($2.95) y unos chilaquiles ricos ($4.95).  El menú no es tan variado como me hubiera gustado.  De 1 a 10 daría un 6...si desea algo que se asemeja a tex-mex, es una opción decente.

A few days ago we went to eat at Santa Fe, a Tex-Mex restaurant in Managua, Nicaragua.  It has a nice ambience, good margaritas ($2.95) and some pretty good chilaquiles ($4.95).  There isn't as much variety on the menu as I would like.  From 1 to 10, it gets a 6...if you want something Tex-Mex, it's a decent option.

Here's a couple children from El Chilamate (close to Granada - tourism capital of Nicaragua) taking advantage of their own original form of transport.  The little girl takes the lead and the little boy enjoys being a passenger!

Barceló Managua

 

 

 

We spent a night at the (fairly new) Barceló Managua hotel.  It was a nice experience, worth repeating someday.  The price includes a buffet breakfast for two, which would cost about $10-12 per person at any hotel in the capital.

The hotel is comfortable although not luxurious by any means.  However, it is new and that makes everything more enjoyable.  We stayed on the sixth floor, wanting to see if it was earthquake proof :) and there was plenty of hot water.  The A/C worked perfectly as did the cable television.  The bathroom was incredibly well stocked with complimentary toiletries.  There are also fluffy robes provided.  The hotel is clean.  There is a Japanese restaurant, an international restaurant and a bar on site.  Also, there is a pool with a nice view of Managua and Lake Xolotlán.  On a 5 star scale, Hotel Barceló Managua gets a 3.5 (the extra 1/2 might wear off as the hotel loses it's newness).  You can check hotel prices by clicking here.

Pasamos una noche en el (relativamente nuevo) hotel Barceló Managua.  Fue una buena experiencia, para repetirse algún día.  El precio de la estadía incluye un buffet desayuno para dos, que costaría entre $10-12 en cualquiera de los hoteles capitalinos.

El hotel es cómodo aunque no lujoso.  Sin embargo, es nuevo y ese hecho contribuye a que sea muy agradable.  Nos quedamos en el sexto piso, queriendo poner a prueba lo anti-sísimico que es el hotel :) y hubo bastante agua caliente.  El aire condicionado funcionaba muy bien; igual la televisión por cable.  El baño estaba sorprendentemente bien surtido con artículos personales, complementos del hotel.  Había batas para nuestro uso.  El hotel está bastante limpio.  Hay un restaurante Japonese, un internacional y en bar.  También hay una buena piscina con un vistazo de Managua y el Lago Xolotlán.  De una a cinco estrellas, Hotel Barceló Managua recibe 3.5 (la media estrella se debe a lo nuevo del hotel...ojalá lo mantengan bien).  Podés ver los precios del hotel pinchando aquí.

Kenner and Jeffer

Saludá a Kenner y Jeffer, dos niños gemelos de Nicaragua.  Tienen 11 años de edad.  Uno es más amistoso que el otro, como suelen ser los gemelos.  Son de Caña de Castilla, Granada.

Say hi to Kenner and Jeffer, two young twin boys from Nicaragua.  They are 11 years old.  One is friendlier than the other, as is often the case with twins.  They live in Caña de Castilla, Granada.

Árbol Gato<<<<>>>>Cat Tree

In La Reforma, Masaya, Nicaragua, a family makes a living making pillows from the Cat Tree (that's what the locals call it).  As you can see, the tree produces some interesting by-products.  One of them is an tail-like object about the size of a big rabbit's foot.  The fluff is completely removed from those tail-like objects and later cleaned and stuffed into pillows to be sewn up.  After a few hours of direct sunlight, they are off to the market or the streets to be sold.

En La Reforma, Masaya, Nicaragua, una familia se gana la vida haciendo almohadas del árbol Gato (así lo llaman los habitantes de la zona).  Como podés ver, el árbol produce una cosecha interesante.  Uno de los objetos tienen el tomaño de una pata de conejo.  La cosa, parecida al algodón, se quita del rabito y se limpia y luego lo ocupan para llenar las almohadas.  Después de solearlas un rato, están listas para el mercado o la venta de la calle.

TGI Friday's

Recently T.G.I. Friday's in Managua, Nicaragua has adjusted their menu. Unfortunately, I can't really say it was for the better. They have basically the same selections as always but the prices have been raised a couple of dollars. For instance, there's a Frisco Melt ($7.95), Chicken Fingers sandwich ($8.95) and the Philly Cheesesteak ($9.95). The happy hour drinks are 2 x $2.50 but not impressive at all. I had two Long Island Iced Teas and they basically tasted like a tart lemonade. I am definitely looking for new options....

Recientemente T.G.I. Friday's en Managua, Nicaragua ha ajustado su menú. Desafortunademente, no veo que ha habido mejora. Las selecciones del menú no varían mucho pero todos los precios han subido por un par de dólares. Por ejemplo, hay el Frisco Melt ($7.95), Chicken Fingers sandwich ($8.95) y el sandwich Philly Cheesesteak ($9.95). Hay 'Happy Hour'- bebidas 2 x $2.50 pero no era muy buenas. Pedí dos Los Island Iced Teas y sabían a una limonada ácida. Estaré buscando nuevas opciones....

McFlurry Milky Way

The Nicaraguan McDonald's have a current promotion on their Milky Way McFlurrys. They cost C$33 ($1.57) and are umm umm good! Remember that there are 5 Managuan locations: Plaza España, Plaza Inter, Metrocentro (food court), Metrocentro (stand alone) and Bello Horizonte.

En McDonald's de Nicaragua hay una promoción de McFlurry con sabor a Milky Way. Cuesta C$33 ($1.57) y son deliciosos!!! Acordate que hay 5 restaurantes en Managua: Plaza España, Plaza Inter, Metrocentro (food court), Metrocentro (costado oeste) and Bello Horizonte.

Washer for sale////\\\\Lavandero de venta

You can sometimes find just about anything on sale on the streets in Nicaragua. Apparently this truck, hauling a load of concrete washboard tables (a Nicaraguan staple found in every home), broke down and the owner decided not to lose any time by selling them right on the highway (between Granada and Masaya). Can you fit that in your trunk?

A veces te encontrás con un poco de todo de venta en las calles de Nicaragua. Aparentemente, este camión, cargado con un montón de lavanderos concretos (se encuentran en casas por todo Nicaragua), se quedó en camino y por eso el dueño decidió no perder tiempo por medio de venderlos allí mismo en la carretera (entre Granada y Masaya). ¿Cabe eso en el baúl?

The Tiger's Cave///\\\La Cueva del Tigre

If you have ever been to La Laguna de Apoyo in Masaya, Nicaragua, then you have probably heard of the restaurante 'La Cueva del Tigre'.  It sits on a high rim above the Apoyo lagoon.  The restaurant is somewhat folkloric and does have a wonderful view.  The prices are reasonable.  This chicken breast will set you back C$110 ($5.40) and a bottle of coke costs C$12 ($0.55).  As far as the food goes, not bad, not great.  If you are traipsing up the hill, it's worth meandering up to the 'Tiger's Cave' for lunch.  As a gastronomical destination, on a scale from 1-10, it's a 4.  It's strong point, while not the food, is the great view!

Si has ido a La Laguna de Apoyo en Masaya, Nicaragua, es probable que hayas escuchado de un restaurante llamado 'La Cueva del Tigre'.  Está ubicado en los altos de la Laguna de Apoyo.  El restaurante es casi folclórico y tiene un vistazo tremendo.  Los precios son razonables.  La pechuga de pollo a la plancha te va golpear al son de C$110 ($5.40) y una botella de Coca-Cola cuesta C$12 ($0.55).  En cuanto a la comida, no tan mala, no tan buena.  Si estás por allí y vas adventurando, vale la pena vagar hasta 'La Cueva' para almorzar.  Como un destino para tu paladar, de 1 a 10, es un 4.  Su fuerte, no la comida, es el vistazo que tiene.

Ometepe - Biosphere...Biósfera

The island of Ometepe in Nicaragua now forms part of the Man and Biosphere (MAB), a world network program from UNESCO.  Ometepe, formed by two active volcanos (Madera and Concepción), is found in Lake Cocibolca, the 10ths biggest lake in the world.  The island itself is considered the biggest island in the world situated within a freshwater lake.  It's home to some 30,000 inhabitants who live in harmony with it's natural and breathtaking surroundings.

The island of Ometepe (2010) in Nicaragua now joins Bosawás (1997) -the largest tropical forest in Central America- and the Rio San Juan-Nicaragua Biosphere Reserve (2003) as part of the Man and Biosphere (MAB), a world network program from UNESCO.

La isla de Ometepe de Nicaragua ahora se clasifica como Reserva de Biosfera  según la Coordinación Internacional del Hombre y la Biósfera (MAB) de UNESCO.  Ometepe, formada por sus dos volcanos activos (Madera y Concepción), se encuentra en el Lago Cocibolca, considerado el décimo más grande del mundo.  La isla misma se considera la más grande del mundo situada en un lago.  Viven 30,000 habitantes en harmonía con la naturaleza y sus alrededores.

La isla de Ometepe (2010) se clasifica con Bosawás (1997) - el bosque tropical más grande de Centroamerica- y la Reserva Rió San Juan (2003) como parte de la Coordinación Internacional del Hombre y la Biósfera (MAB) de UNESCO.

Finger lickin' good ribs...Costillas que te hagan chupar los dedos

¿No te gustaría probar este almuerzo típico Nicaraguense de costillas de cerdo, yuca, ensalada de cebolla, tomate y limón y frijoles molidos?  '¡Estuvio riquísimo!' te digo, para chuparse los dedos, por allí en El Valle de la Laguna, Masaya.

Wouldn't you love to try this typical Nicaraguan lunch that consists of pork ribs, yucca, a salad made of tomato, onion and lime juice and refried beans?  'twas finger licking good, I'll tell ya, there in El Valle de la Laguna, Masaya.
