Costa Esmeralda Airport Begins Construction | Live & Invest Overseas News

Nicaragua's Costa Esmeralda Airport Begins Construction

Nicaragua's international Costa Esmeralda Airport recently became one step closer to becoming reality.
Located near the luxury Mukul Beach, Golf & Spa resort on Guacalito de la Isla, one-and-a-half hours south of Granada and forty-five minutes north of San Juan del Sur, the airport will feature a 1,500-meter long runway, an international terminal, a control tower, and custom and immigration offices.
Corporacion del Sur SA is building the US$12 million project, benefited by tax exemptions from the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism.
According to El Nuevo Diario, the director of promotions and marketing for the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism, Ana Carolina Garcia states, "'These flights, whether they be domestic or international, will increase over time, and a lot more people with high purchasing power will come to these sites, which will help investment in our country." In 2014, Nicaragua anticipates collecting US$440 million in tourism revenue. The director of marketing and public relations for the resort, Claudia Silva, claims the airport's construction will directly provide 100 construction jobs and 28 permanent jobs once it is open and operational. Furthermore, other jobs will spin off as a result of increased tourist traffic to the area, according to Silva.
The airport is expected to be complete in one year.

Hacienda Iguana

We spent a couple of days at Casa Marisombra in the Hacienda Iguana Golf & Beach Club in Tola, Nicaragua.  Hacienda Iguana is a gated community with 24-hour security on one of the excellent beach areas that Nicaragua offers.  Most of the houses are privately owned.  Many are available for weekly and monthly rentals.  There is a restaurant and beach club with food offerings as well.

There is also a 9-hole golf course designed by Niels Oldenberg, carefully blended into the natural beauty of this reserve.

There are 8-10 foot breaks in two particular spots on the mile-long beach.

It is a wonderful place to spend a week (or just a weekend like we did).  If you plan to go to the beaches in Tola, make sure you check out Hacienda Iguana.

Secret Retreat – Boutique luxury debuts in Nicaragua
The first luxury boutique hotel in Nicaragua opens in February at Guacalito de la Isla, a 1,670-acre, $250 million low-density private beach community created by Nicaraguan entrepreneur Don Carlos Pellas. Located on a four-mile white sand beach on Nicaragua's Emerald Coast, Mukul Luxury Resort & Spa features 37 freestanding accommodations, with ocean views, pools, and private staffs.
The Emerald Coast is a 30-mile stretch of Pacific shoreline dotted with jungles, cliffs, fishing villages, and untouched beaches. Mukul Luxury Resort & Spa sits directly on the beach and encompasses more than 1,600 private acres of lush vegetation. Facilities include Spa Mukul, a beach club, a swimming pool, nature trails, and the 18-hole Guacalito Golf Course.
Spa Mukul comprises six spas in one location. Guests can reserve a spa casita for several hours, during which they can enjoy a series of treatments, then relax in its private garden, which features shaded lounging areas and a monsoon shower.
The open-air Mukul Luxury Resort & Spa Beach Club allows guests to enjoy tastings of rare Flor de Caña rums in the split-level lounge, as well as lunch and dinner at the Beach Terrace Grill or Mukul Restaurant. Much of the food will be locally sourced from the resort's organic farm, daily catches by local fishermen, and grass-fed Nicaraguan cattle. The beach club also features a lounging area, swimming pool, and kids' area. A casita by the beach provides surfboards, paddleboards, snorkel gear, and kayaks.
The first luxury property in the country, Mukul, the Mayan word for "secret," is an eco-friendly paradise ready to be discovered. Real estate opportunities are also available at Guacalito de la Isla.

Nicaragua
Nicaragua certainly deserves to be noted as an up-and-coming destination for 2013, especially thanks to entrepreneur Carlos Pellas and his new luxury Mukul Resort and Spa. Nicaragua offers a diversity of virtually untapped adventure, the splendor of hiking volcanos, canopy tours and zip-lines, biking, scuba, and the best surfing in Central America. Plus, easy access from the United States. Enjoy Lake Nicaragua, with numerous fresh-water islands and views of Mombacho Volcano, howler monkeys, and an abundance of  tropical birds. Visit the colorful colonial city of Granada, dating back to 1524, with immaculate, colorful historical buildings. Susan Sparks, Points of Interest Travel/Brownell Travel

Little chair <...> silla pequeña

As I was wondering through the backwoods of Los Cerros, Rivas (near the Nicaragua tourism area known as Tola), I saw this little wooden chair, typically called a 'grandmother' chair here in Nicaragua.  This one was special though cause it was not 'grandmother' size but rather granddaughter size.

These ants from Los Cerros, Rivas had a big feast in mind as they hosted this worm back to camp.

Estas hormigas de Los Cerros, Rivas tenían en mente una gran fiesta mientras llevaba este gusano a su nido.

Tip Top Nicaragua

Tip Tip, a local fast food chain in Nicaragua specializing in fried chicken, has received a lot of bad press lately, especially with the Matagalpa worm scandal.  However, being objective, Tip Top has a lot going for it, even though it isn't typical Nicaragua food.  A recent trip to the Tip Top in Rivas netted the following: a breaded chicken breast with tomatoes, lettuce and ranch dressing wrapped up in a wheat tortilla.  It comes with an order of french fries (ask them to bring them hot) and a drink for C$76 ($3.27).  It was quite tasty and yes, I would repeat it.  Oh yeah, and I washed it down with a caramel flavored coffee frappe (C$45).

San Jorge Ferry–Moyogalpa, Ometepe

We hopped on the Milton Arcia Ferry (leaves San Jorge at 10:30 a.m. and arrives at around 12:00 noon).  A personal vehicle costs C$420 ($18) and each passenger costs C$70 ($3).  It’s always an adventure crossing the great Cocibolca but this time that water was fairly calm and emerald green.

5000 bananas<...>5000 guineos

We caught up to this man and 5000 bananas that he was hauling with his cows.  He was on the road from Nancimí, Tola in Rivas, Nicaragua, going to some drop point.  Yes, that's 5000!

Alcanzamos a este hombre y los 5000 guineos que jalaba con sus bueyes.  Estuvo en camino entre Nancimí, Tola en Rivas, Nicaragua, buscando un lugar de encuentro para dejarlos.  Sí, son 5000!
