Rubén Darío National Theater

The Rubén Darío National Theater has been a time proven landmark on the coast of Lake Managua (Xolotlán) for over 40 years.  It mainly plays host to local culture and talent but, at times, and much to the glee of the Managua public, it has been host to select international talent.  The main auditorium seats 1200 attendees.  It will undoubtedly continue to be an attraction as the local Managua authorities continue their efforts to renovate and revive this area of Managua with excellent tourist potential.

Aprovechá Macario...

Tiptop, a fast food chicken restaurant in Nicaragua and somehow a favorite among the Nicaraguan population, has combined two Nicaraguan favorites: folkloric expressions and Toña beer.

"Aprovechá Macario[...esto no es diario]" is a tongue-in-cheek expression that basically means: "Don't put off 'til tomorrow what you can do today" or "Strike while the iron is hot!"

Run and get those beers boys!!!!

Tanto que te quise....

Ángel Ríos, resident of the Barrio 380 in Managua, is a Nicaraguan songwriter and composer from the golden years of Nicaragua.  He frequently sang these songs in Bohemia fashion, combing the night darkened streets of Managua, in want of some looking for song.  I leave you with..."Tanto que te quise".

Los Panzers

Los Panzers is a musical group from San Marcos, Carazo, Nicaragua, popular in the 1960's and 70's.  Led by the voice of Ramón Castro, they played many popular 'summertime songs' (música del verano) that were popular during the time of the year when many Nicaraguans head to the beach (January to April).  Playing both original music and cover versions, they even once opened for the famous group Los Ángeles Negros.  During their time period, they were one of the most popular musical groups in Nicaragua, Central America and beyond.

Angry Barranco

You might have seen some of these caricatures floating around Nicaragua.  The famous guardabarranco bird, one of Nicaragua's national symbols, has been modified into the angrybarranco that you see here.

Su elaboración estuvo a cargo de 15 escultores de la Escuela de Bellas Artes, en Granada, y en ella emplearon hierro, papel mache, fibra de vidrio, entre otros materiales elementales para dar forma a esta gran señora de raíces leonesas que representa la alegría y tradiciones de nuestro pueblo, como lo dieron a conocer los encargados de esta iniciativa en medio de una velada cultural abarrotada de gente, con la que Viva Nicaragua, Canal 13 celebró su primer aniversario el sábado 16 de junio en Multicentro Las Américas.

Entre danzas folclóricas y contemporáneas, presentaciones musicales y concursos de coplas, transcurrió el festejo, en el cual no podía faltar el baile de varias gigantonas que sin duda alguna, no superaban en altura a la enorme muñeca de hierro, que como reina, sobresalía ante las demás sin ser movida de su lugar. Difícilmente pueda recorrer las calles al son de tambores, debido a su peso, por lo que pasará a ocupar un espacio de exhibición, como una obra de arte.

World's largest hammock<...>Hamaca más grande del mundo

Granada, Nicaragua will be home to the biggest hammock ever made in Nicaragua - 25 yards long and 7 yards wide with seating capacity for 60 people.  It will cost $1,000 + labor costs.  Children with physical disabilities will collaborate along with other school age children.

Earlier last year, a large hammock 12 yards long and 2 1/2 yards wide with seating capacity for 17 people was sold for $400 (picture above).

Nicaraguan artisans are very skilled in the making of hammocks and other popular items with tourists visiting the 'land of lakes and volcanoes'.

Granada, Nicaragua será el lugar de nacimiento de la hamaca más grande del mundo - 25 metros de largo y 7 metros de ancho con capacidad para 60 personas.  Costará $1,000 + gastos de labor.  Niños con discapacidades colaborarán con otros escolares en la fabricación de esta hamaca.

El año pasado, una hamaca granda de 12 metros de largo y 2 1/2 metros de ancho con capacidad para 17 personas fue vendido por $400 (vea foto arriba).

La artesanía de Nicaragua es muy avanzada, especializada en hacer hamacas y otros artículos populares con los turistas visitando 'la tierra de lagos y volcanes'.
