Tacos LaSalle

We stopped for the famous LaSalle tacos, made on the street corner of the school with the same name in León. They are served up fresh as you ask for them...a rolled up tortilla with their secret chicken mix inside, deep fried and then topped with cabbage, cream and a lime, onion and chile pepper salad. I washed mine down with an orange Fanta and a Coca-cola. We ate with Karl and Tiffany. The 10 tacos (3,3,2,2) and 5 sodas cost a mere C$130 (US$6.50). Karl Lamy, Tiffany Lamy

Pasamos a comer los famosos tacos LaSalle, hechos en la esquina del colegio con el mismo nombre en León. Los hacen cuando uno los pide...una tortilla enrollado con un pollo especial preparado, frito y luego te echan repollo, crema y cebolla con chile y limón. Yo también tomé dos gaseosas: una Fanta naranja y un Coca-cola. Comimos con Karl y Tiffany. Los 10 tacos (3,3,2,2) y 5 gaseosas costaron solamente C$130 (US$6.50).

Walmart expands in Nicaragua

Walmart of Central America recently opened the first of 5 new hibrid stores, called Maxi Pali, combining a warehouse concept with discount grocery store prices.  It includes the traditional Pali fare such as canned goods, fresh meat, fruits and vegetables and adds clothing, electronics, camping, hardware, banking (there is a Banpro branch inside the store) a a few other low key conveniences.  The air conditioned store also has public restrooms and a decent effort to keep them clean.  The first store is in León, Nicaragua.  The company promises the four other Maxi Palí stores in Nicaragua before the end of the year 2011 in Rivas, Masaya, Estelí and Managua.

Walmart de Centroamérica inauguró recientemente la primera de 5 nuevas tiendas con el concepto combinado de una bodega y un supermercado con precios bajos.  Incluye lo acostumbrado de Palí como abarrotes, carne, fruta y verduras y agrega ropa, electrodomésticos, equipo de 'camping', artículos ferreteros, y un banco (Banpro tiene una sucursal dentro de la tienda) y una que otra conveniencia.  Hay buen aire acondicionado y baños para el público.  Al parecer están haciendo esfuerzos decentes de mantenerlos limpios.  La primera tienda se ubica en León, Nicaragua.  Walmart ha prometido construir 4 más Maxi Pali en Nicaragua antes que termine el año 2011 en Rivas, Masaya, Estelí y Managua.

La Mexicana

I had some great Mexican food two nights this past week in León, Nicaragua, a favorite of tourists in Nicaragua.  The owner/cook is from Guadalajara, México.  She knows her stuff - at least as fars as the chilaquiles y the salsas go.  Wow!  We liked it so much we ate there two nights in a row.  I did have other offerings (not as tasty).  Go with the chilaquiles.  You can't go wrong!

Comí una comida mexicana bien buena dos noches de esta semana pasada en León, Nicaragua, un lugar frecuentado por turistas en Nicaragua.  La dueña/cocinera es de Guadalajara, México.  Sabe cocinar - por lo menos en cuanto a los chilaquiles y las salsas.  Guau!  Nos gustó tanto que comimos allí dos noches corridas. Probé otras cosas (no tan buenas).  Pedí los chilaquiles.  No te equivocarás!!!

Mexican food in León/Comida mexicana en León

We ate supper with Yahoska in a little Mexican "restaurant" about one block away from Hotel Perla. It's a small hole in the wall type place but had some surprisingly authentic Mexican food. I ordered chilaquiles (C$60 - about $3) and a big boy beverage - Toña (normally about $C15 - $0.75). It was good! Worth heading south of the border for this chow!!!! 

Fuimos a comer con Yahoska en un pequeño lugar "mexicano" cerca del Hotel Perla. No es muy grande pero para nuestro agrado y sorpresa comimos unos platos bastante auténticos. Yo pedí chilaquiles (C$60 - casi $3) y una bebida para adultos ($C15 - $0.75). ¡¡Que rico!! Bueno para gozar....

Café Rosita

We are in León this week. It is quite a touristy town with a lot of old churches and a lot of white people walking around. The food fare is also distinct to the rest of Nicaragua. We ate a nice salad in Café La Rosita. The espresso and other coffees sure smelled good too! Their fresh baked bread was off the charts!!! I recommend it to you!

Estamos en León esta semana. Hay bastante turismo aquí. También hay muchas iglesias antiguas y muchos cheles ambulando por allí. La oferta de comida es distinta al resto de Nicaragua. Comimos una ensalada bien buena en Café La Rosita. El espresso y otros cafés también olian ricos. El pan recien horneado era fenomenal!!! Se lo recomiendo....
