Long lost friend<...>Un amigo perdido

I found this long lost friend, alongside the road in El Hormigón, Granada, Nicaragua.  I so wanted to give him a dignified burial but also was with the hope that someone, anyone, might adopt him...taking him home, washing him, hanging him out to dry, and thus extend his life and the happiness he might share with other boys and girls...like these: Stuffed animals

Here’s a Nicaraguan classic: chicken soup with carrots, potatoes, corn on the cob, chayote (vegetable pear), yucca, corn and chicken dumplings and spices.  It’s great for a rainy day!

We spent the week in Cárdenas, Rivas.  It’s a quaint little fishing town on the south edge of Nicaragua (and Lake Nicaragua – which is the tenth largest lake in the world).

There are some really nice views of Ometepe.

Interestingly enough, Costa Rica is just a stone’s throw away, the border being separated by a rickety old fence.

An hour up the road towards Colón, in the Los Ángeles area, there are other real nice views of Ometepe.

Cárdenas, Rivas is a wonderful place to visit – the people are really friendly and there abounds some breathtaking scenery from the Nicaraguan countryside.  It is a real gem amongst the many options for tourism in Nicaragua.

Home cooked lunch in Nicaragua/Almuerzo casero en Nicaragua

We had a nice home cooked meal in Nancimí, Rivas, Nicaragua.  It consisted of chicken (cooked in olive oil and basil), slightly refried beans, fried green plantains (called tostones), a salad made of tomato, onion, cilantro and lime juice, rice and some nice ice-cold Coca-Cola to wash it down.  One of the simple and delicious home cooked meals that you might be served off the beaten path in Nicaragua.
